In The Lancet Infectious Diseases, Michael Osterholm and colleagues report a meta-analysis1 on the efficacy and effectiveness of influenza vaccines licensed in the USA. Although not confined to country of licensure, similar analyses have been published by the Cochrane collaboration.2 However, this new study1 differs in several ways from the Cochrane analyses.
